Restoring stability after ligament injury
A torn ligament can leave your knee feeling unreliable long after the initial injury has settled. Mr Paul Jermin performs over 30 ligament reconstructions each year, rebuilding the knee so you can return to the activities that matter to you.
Ligament injuries are among the most common serious knee injuries, particularly in active and sporting individuals. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is most frequently injured, but the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), and lateral ligament complex may also require specialist assessment.
Mr Paul Jermin performs over 30 ligament reconstructions annually. Surgery is usually recommended when the knee remains unstable after physiotherapy and rehabilitation, or when returning to sport at your previous level is the goal.
ACL reconstruction uses a graft – typically from your own hamstring or patellar tendon – to replace the torn ligament. This is performed arthroscopically and is followed by a structured rehabilitation programme lasting several months.
Treatment is always tailored to your specific injury, activity level, and goals.

Your Journey
Mr Jermin will take a detailed history of your injury and examine your knee to assess which ligaments are affected and how unstable the joint is.
An MRI confirms the extent of the ligament damage and identifies any associated meniscal or cartilage injury.
Surgery is not always the answer. Mr Jermin will discuss whether reconstruction is right for your injury, your activity level, and your goals.
Reconstruction is performed arthroscopically at RJAH Oswestry (NHS) or Spire Yale Hospital, Wrexham (private), using a graft taken from your own hamstring or patellar tendon.
A structured rehabilitation programme runs over several months, progressing you safely from early movement through to return to sport.
