Injection Therapy

Non-surgical injection treatments for knee pain

Relieving knee pain without surgery

Not every knee problem needs an operation. Injection treatments can reduce pain and improve function, either as a treatment in their own right or as a step before considering surgery. Mr Paul Jermin offers injection for knee arthritis with an emphasis on Arthrosamid®.

There are an awful lot of injections that can be done for knee arthritis. Many of them have been proven to be of limited effectiveness (such as hyaluronic acid & stem cells). Paul employs an evidence-based approach to the injections he offers (and has published & presented in this field extensively). It is important to appreciate that not everyone will respond to injections and Paul will discuss the likelihood of you responding to the injections he offers.

Injection treatments deliver medication or biological material directly into the knee joint, targeting pain and inflammation at source. They are typically considered when symptoms persist despite physiotherapy and medication, but surgery is not yet appropriate or not wanted.

Options include:

  • Arthrosamid® – a hydrogel injection for knee osteoarthritis
  • PRP (platelet-rich plasma) – uses a concentrate prepared from your own blood, injected into the joint
  • Steroid (cortisone) Injection

The right option depends on your diagnosis, your symptoms, and your goals. Mr Jermin will explain what each treatment involves and what it can realistically achieve for you.

  • On UK advisory board for Arthrosamid®, works closely with Contura (manufacturers of Arthrosamid®)

Is this treatment for you?

  • Ongoing knee pain not settling with rest or medication
  • Pain limiting walking, work, or exercise
  • Stiffness or swelling that keeps returning
  • Symptoms persisting after physiotherapy
  • Wanting to explore options before considering surgery
  • Not yet suitable, or not ready, for knee replacement

Your Journey

Initial consultation

Mr Jermin will discuss your symptoms, review any previous imaging, and examine your knee to establish what is causing your pain.

Imaging and assessment

X-rays or an MRI may be arranged to confirm the diagnosis and assess the condition of the joint.

Treatment planning

Mr Jermin will explain which injection options are suitable for you, what each involves, and what results you can reasonably expect.

The injection

The injection is carried out as an outpatient procedure at RJAH Oswestry (NHS) or Spire Yale Hospital, Wrexham (private).

Follow-up and review

Your response is reviewed at follow-up, and next steps agreed – whether that is repeat treatment, physiotherapy, or considering surgical options.
