Advanced Knee Surgery for Complex and Sporting Conditions

Appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2016, he holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS T&O) and trained at some of the most respected surgical centres in the country.

His NHS work is based at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry — one of only four stand-alone specialist orthopaedic hospitals in the UK, and an internationally recognised centre of excellence. As a tertiary referral centre, Oswestry draws complex cases from across the country and beyond, and it is within this environment that Mr Jermin has developed particular expertise in challenging and high-complexity knee conditions. He also consults privately at Oswestry & at Spire Yale Hospital in Wrexham.

Clinical Practice

Mr Jermin’s work spans the full breadth of knee surgery — from joint replacement and arthroscopic procedures to osteotomy, ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, and meniscal surgery. He also offers knee injections including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Arthrosamid®. Revision (re-do) knee replacement is the one area he does not cover. He has a particular focus on younger patients with arthritis, where the goal is to preserve and restore joint function rather than replace it, if possible.

His annual caseload is among the highest in the UK: over 100 total knee replacements, around 30 partial knee replacements, more than 200 knee arthroscopies, over 30 ligament reconstructions, more than 35 osteotomies, and more than 25 cartilage regenerative procedures — roughly twice the volume of the average UK knee surgeon.

In 2024, he was successfully awarded the Christian Bezenar travelling fellowship. This highly prestigious fellowship took him around the USA, visiting some of the best known knee surgeons in the world.

Leadership and Education

Mr Jermin has served as Director of Medical Education at Oswestry since 2019, overseeing one of the most prestigious surgical training programmes in the country. In 2021 he founded and chairs a monthly National Complex Cartilage Meeting, drawing specialists from across the UK to discuss the most demanding cases and drive improvements in patient care. He is regularly invited to lecture nationally and internationally, and has contributed to several national commissioning policies on knee transplantation and focal resurfacing procedures. He was elected as the UK lead for Cartilage Centres in the UK in 2025.

He holds the position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Keele and Vice Chairman of Oswestry Orthopaedics LLP.

Alongside industry, he created and chairs an international osteotomy masterclass course that runs yearly in Cambridge.

He also sits on several national advisory committees for various companies.

Due to these positions, he is often invited to be the first people in the country to offer new procedures (such as Cartiheal).

Research

Working closely with scientists at the University Keele (many of whom are international experts), Mr Jermin remains at the forefront of developments in knee surgery. His work is regularly published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences worldwide.

Personal

Paul lives on the border between England & Wales with his wife & 2 children. Being a native Cumbrian, he used to enjoy fell-running (taking part in the Matterhorn Ultraks in 2016) but injury ended his fell running days, he now enjoys keeping fit with boxing training. He is a lifelong Liverpool FC fan & is an avid reader.
