Keeping your own knee working for longer
Joint preservation brings together every technique that keeps your natural knee going – from realignment and cartilage repair through to biologics. Mr Paul Jermin sees complex preservation cases referred from across the UK, working at one of only four standalone specialist orthopaedic hospitals in the country.
Joint preservation describes a range of treatments aimed at maintaining the health and function of your natural knee for as long as possible – delaying or avoiding the need for joint replacement. It is particularly relevant for younger patients and those with early or focal joint damage.
Mr Paul Jermin has a strong interest in joint preservation and sees complex cases referred from across the UK. His work at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry – one of only four standalone specialist orthopaedic hospitals in the country – gives him access to the full range of preservation techniques.
Preservation procedures include:
- Osteotomy and realignment surgery
- Cartilage regeneration and transplantation
- Meniscal preservation, repair & transplantation
- Biologics such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
The aim is always to restore function using the least interventional approach that achieves a durable result.
- All preservation techniques offered (osteotomy, cartilage, meniscal, PRP)

Your Journey
Mr Jermin will build a full picture of your knee, your symptoms, and what you need your knee to do – now and in the years ahead.
X-rays and MRI assess alignment, cartilage, and meniscus together, since preservation often depends on addressing more than one factor.
Mr Jermin will set out a plan using the least interventional approach that achieves a durable result – which may combine several techniques.
Treatment is carried out at RJAH Oswestry (NHS) or Spire Yale Hospital, Wrexham (private), and may involve realignment, cartilage repair, meniscal preservation, or biologics.
Rehabilitation is tailored to the procedures performed, with progress monitored and the plan adjusted as you recover.
